Johney Mazza at Maili Point Maili point on the west side is one of the more accessable and well known surf spots. Predominantly a long left over reef, it occasionally has rights also, depending on the swell direction. There is usually a lot of water moving around, so a bigger board can definetly be helpfull at times for catching waves. Don't paddle out on a 6'1" if it looks a few feet overhead, you'll have trouble. Be carefull of the shallow, sometimes exposed reef on the inside, visible in this picture and the one above. Just make sure to paddle around it when coming in or out. Maili Point is a good spot to surf when the North Shore is maxed out. Be carefull because it's usually bigger than it looks out there. To find Maili Point, look directy in front of the beach park at Ma'ipalaoa Road.
